Singer-songwriter John Denver touched millions of people and reached superstar status by his folk-inspired pop hits most of which were based in Colorado. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, he was in affection with Colorado and later relocated to Aspen. More than a few people beat a path through Colorado after hearing Denver's popular songs for his home state. There isn't another performer that embodies Colorado such as John Denver said G. Brown curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame. Denver was the first Hall of Fame ever inductee. For many, Denver is the symbol of Colorado. People you meet in different countries, such as New Zealanders. They tell them "I am from Colorado" And they immediately respond with "Oh John Denver. Brown declared. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief stint in folk groups and was his debut Top 10 solo hit. Danoff was credited with Johnny Cash as the inspiration for the song, but Denver realized that it could turn into a hit once he heard an earlier version. The song was performed in Washington D.C. to a large audience, Denver made a recording a few days later.
